Exploring Portage County (Series 3)

As I continue my exploration of Portage County, I decided to head to Kent, a quick 12-minute drive from Streetsboro, making it a perfect place to explore while staying in Streetsboro. This bustling city is home to Kent State University as well as a variety of unique shops, museums, parks, breweries, an orchard, and a theatre. They also have an amazing Farmer’s Market and an assortment of special events that take place throughout the year.

While enjoying my day, I took the opportunity to visit Beckwith Orchards, they have some truly delicious pies, I would recommend ordering some for your holiday gatherings. They also have locally made products and fresh fruit. I also visited Off the Wagon a wonderful specialty, gift & toy shop and Popped! an amazing popcorn store. I also stopped by the Dirty Skate Co.. If you enjoy skateboarding than this is definitely the place for you. As I continued to enjoy my day, a visit to Kent State University Museum was a must. They offer 8 galleries featuring fashion and decorative arts. Next it was over to Cracked Escape. They offer two escape room options to choose from either the Ghost Tavern or Under The Big Top. It’s a lot of fun to see if you can solve the puzzles and get out in the 60 minutes.

Since the weather has been so beautiful, I also stopped by the Portage Hike & Bike Trail. The Portage Park District really does have a great park system, with a lot of parks to visit throughout the county. I also swung by the Copperrider Kent Bog State Nature Preserve. I’ve never been there before and it was neat to see something new and walk the .5 mile hiking trail.

I finished the day off with a visit to one of the breweries. If I’m correct there are now 3 breweries located in Kent, North Water Brewing Co., Bell Tower Brewing Co. and Madcap Brew Co., each offer their own craft beers.

I’ve really been enjoying the opportunity of visiting these nearby communities and seeing just some of what they have to experience. I can’t wait to keep exploring and I hope that you get an opportunity to visit Kent the next time to stay in Streetsboro.
